Rachel Neeson, Architect, Sydney.
Rachel Neeson studied architecture at the University of Sydney, graduating with the University Medal in 1993. She was awarded the prestigious Board of Architects 2002 Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship and formed Neeson Murcutt Architects with her partner Nicholas Murcutt in 2004, after completing a Masters of Architecture in Barcelona. Rachel is Adjunct Professor at the University of Sydney.
Actively involved in the architectural community, Rachel has taught numerous design studios, coordinated talks programs and participated on design juries including the 2010 AAA Cavalier Bremworth Design Awards in New Zealand, the 2008 AA Prize for Unbuilt Work and the 2004 RAIA NSW Chapter Architecture Awards. She was architectural advisor to the 2011 Think Brick About Face Competition.
The office of Neeson Murcutt Architects has been recognised for design excellence locally and internationally through awards, publications, lectures and exhibitions including the 2006 and 2008 Venice Biennales. Notably, Neeson Murcutt Architects was the recipient of the 2007 Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter Wilkinson Award for the Five Dock House, the 2009 Wilkinson Award for the Whale Beach House and in the same year an AIA Victoria Chapter Architecture Award for Zac’s House. Both Whale Beach and Zac’s House received 2009 AIA National Awards.
