2020 CLIMATE EMERGENCY

The beginning of another decade and Australia has felt the full impacts of a new climate reality which has been predicted for the past 50 years

HIGHER RAINFALL / FLOODS

Since June 2019, at the peak of Australia's worst drought, BUSH FIRES began in QLD and slowly spread through NSW to VIC to SA / Kangaroo Island; WA & TAS.

Since the beginning of 2020 each Australian State has experienced the following extreme impacts over a SIX week period:-

  • NSW - widespread bushfires & record high temperatures
  • NSW - Red Dust Storms
  • NSW - Mud Rainfalls
  • NSW - Flash Flooding
  • Sydney - record air pollution / record urban heat / flash flooding
  • QLD - bushfires / record heat / flash flooding
  • VIC - record bushfires / flash flooding
  • WA - bushfires / record hest / Cyclones
  • NT - record heat / cyclone
  • SA - bushfires / record heat / high winds
  • TAS - bushfires

G.I.A. MISSION:

TO ADVOCATE AND PROMOTE THE INCORPORATION OF GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE PRACTICE & PLANNING FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & URBAN / RURAL COMMUNITIES.

G.I.A. OBJECTIVES:

40% of global emissions are linked to the built environment.
Reducing GHG emissions from buildings is a low hanging fruit & can begin immediately.
Buildings are the Elephant in the Room and this Elephant is feeding on ineffective government policy and an out-dated Building Code of Australia..

GIA supports a fast track transition away from the use & export of brown coal.
GIA supports the research, development, installation & export of Renewable Energy systems.
GIA supports the incorporation of green infrastructure to urban planning.
GIA supports awareness raising about the community & environmental health benefits of a vegan diet.
GIA supports a significant reduction in commercial fishing and land clearing for commercial livestock grazing.

1. To be a peak body advocate for the use of green infrastructure practice in cities and the natural environment.
2. To expand opportunities for member organizations to learn about green infrastructure science, technology, practice, economics and environmental and social benefits.
3. To disseminate information about green infrastructure benefits at government, institutional and corporate levels to provide support data for green city & rural planning.
4. To promote and engage in green infrastructure research and development with likeminded associations and companies.
5. To hold "Awareness Raising" Seminars; Conferences and Training.
6. To promote the benefits of green infrastructure in mitigating impacts of climate change and enhancing the existence of all living creatures.
