Verdant Solutions Australia were approached by Lindsay Bennelong Developments and Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke Architects in 2014 to propose a green facade which would camouflage the three level car park facade and provide appropriate daylight factors with natural ventilation.
The project brief required Verdant Solutions Aus (VSA) to liaise for the developers and architects through extensive robust consultations with the City of Sydney Planning Dept prior to receiving the Occupational Certificate. VSA consulted primarily with CoS, LBD and DJRD Architects from start to completion. Place Landscape Architects were engaged for the landscaping elements including green roofs and urban farm plots for residents on level 3 and Tensile Design & Construct were engaged to install the green facade.
VSA negotiated to have plant trials conducted by Andreasens Green Nursery to satisfy council concerns regarding plant failure. However, CoS still insisted on the installation of artwork coloured discs on the green facade, as a safe-guard, in the event that the green facade vegetation failed, however, there are no signs of this occuring.
The plants for the 700sqm green facade are pandorea pandorana - snowbells; pandorea pandorana - ruby belle; trachelospermum jasminoides; cissus antarctica; pyrostegia venusta; hibbertia scandens; trachelospermum asiaticum; capobrotus rossii.
