Cornucopia Living Wall Project.
The inspiration for this project is the work of Patrick Blanc. " Its all about the plants!". We have endevoured to trial Locally occuring native species as a test to see what will perform on a vertical wall setting. This wall is sandwiched between two buildings with an easterly aspect, it is well protected against the harsh sun. The structure is recycled office partians with 10mm PVC foam boards screwed on. The fabric is a layer of black weed matt and two layers of Airstep Felt underlay. Heavy duties 12mm roofing staples were used to staple it to the boards. The plants were all tubestock. Irrigation is supplied by dripline across the top of the living wall. The watering is controlled by a single solenoid Galcon timer, programmed to water four times a day. An ez-Flo Fertiliser Injection tank supplies the living wall with nutrients at very low levels. I am now trialling Compost tea as an organic alternative. We started building in Sept 2011, so it is now over a year old.
