Keynote videos for the WGIC2014 are available.
Dear GRA Members and Colleagues,
The WGIC2014 was the culmination of many hours of planning, organisation and cries for support.
Was it worth it? Indeed! Was it a success? Indeed! Can GRA do better? Indeed!
Will you renew your Memberships and Support our efforts to advocate for significant expansion of our industry into 2015???
The WGIC2014 consolidated new GRA supporters such as Horticulture Australia Limited; BESydney; the Green Building Council of Australia; the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council; 202020Vision; NGIA and many International associations including China; Korea; Taiwan; Brazil; France; Spain; UK; Iran; India and many more.
GRA is now a hub for members to connect globally. Our association with the World Green Infrastructure Network has opened the door to GRA and you, as a member, to network nationally and now internationally. The intention has always been for GRA to act as a national hub between the Design & Construct Industry and the Horticulture Industry whilst providing the conduit to global networks. This vision is now in realisation.
We need members to be active. We need members to communicate with us about what you want and hoew you want to get there.
GRA is listening so let's move forward.
WGIC2014 - Short Summary:
The Case Study Tour took in 12 Sydney sites including One Central Park / Barangaroo Headland Park / Prince Alfred Park Pool and was enjoyed by everyone. The Tour Booklets are available for download.
The Social Events were great with live jazz, the 'Welcome to Country Ceremony' from the Gadigal people; a distinguished opening address from Senator Scott Ludlum who is the only Australian polotician I've heard with an honest, feasible truly 'green' vision for urban development; great food and drinks including the Awards Ceremony.
The WGIC 2014 Green Infrastructure Award was won by One Central Park, presented by Matthew Dillon and accepted by Dr Stanley Quek from Frasers Property.
The WGIN 2014 Green Ambassador Award was won and accepted by Dr Patrick Blanc, presented by Prof Manfred Koehler.
The Plenary and concurrent sessions offered delegates with diversity in topics and expertise from the speakers, many of which travelled from overseas to join an equal share of Australasian speakers. The quality and speaker diversity was the congress highlight.
Workshop Training Sessions direct from Green Roofs fo Healthy Cities, USA were a first being LEED accredited and well supported. Robert Griffith from GRA along with Raphael Garcia from USA gave a combined 101 Design & Install session that was very informative and colourful.
Any feedback from Congress delegates is welcome as we aim to improve our events into the future.
Warm Regards,
Matthew Dillon
GRA President
