In the Putuo residential district in northwest Shanghai, a daring residential building designed by Heatherwick Studio is covered with 1000 trees and looks like a terraced mountain. Slender columns support huge planters, making it appear as if green shoots are sprouting up from the building. A biodiverse mix of regional shrubs, hanging plants, and deciduous and evergreen trees makes for an ever-changing appearance throughout the year—just like a real mountainside.
